Mobile Icons Restoration Unit

Zuzana Skalova (Foundation for the Conservation of Icons in the Middle East, FIME) put together a Mobile Icons Restoration Unit (MIRU) with a grant from the Prince Claus Fund for Culture and Development.

This unit is stored at the Netherlands-Flemish Institute (NVIC) and is offered for use to restorers and projects on Coptic icons and wall paintings, but others may also apply for the use of the MIRU.  The MIRU is composed of valuable equipment and materials that are not easily available in Egypt. Click here for a complete list of contents.

Restorers who want to make use of the MIRU should first contact Ms Skalova.  With a written authorization of Ms Skalova they then contact the NVIC. An agreement will be signed between the NVIC and the user and a deposit of 500 euro needs to be paid. The user will replace any missing, damaged or no longer usable items at his/her expense. When the unit is complete the deposit will be refunded to the user.
